Current Practice

Kate has worked in foster care, residential, inpatient (internship), and outpatient settings. Since becoming a mother in 2006, Kate has a passion for supporting moms in their self-care through art making/art therapy and nurturing one’s creativity. She holds a special place in her heart for pre-teens and teens who are navigating these challenging years and finding their voice and identity.

She moved to Boulder/Lafayette from Chicago in early 2008 with her husband and daughter. She is interested in providing art therapy for the LGBTQ community. She has spoken at PFLAG in June 2017 on the power of art therapy for LGBTQ youth and families.

Kate has worked in the Boulder Valley School District as a paraeducator while also starting her private practice Connected Within Art Therapy and Counseling LLC in 2014 located in Old Town Lafayette.

Additionally, Kate has passions in Nia dance, Buddhism, Ayurveda, mindfulness/meditation, yoga, and art making.

Education & Licensure

Kate obtained her MSW from Western Michigan University School of Social Work in 1994 and her MA in Art Therapy from School of the Art Institute of Chicago Graduate School of Art Therapy in 2000. Her undergraduate degree is a BA in psychology from St. Mary’s College in Indiana in 1991. She has recently completed an experiential 8 week course in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction with Psychologist Jean Leonard.
