Current Practice
Chelsea strongly believes that clinicians should be familiar with a wide variety of theories and adapt to the specific needs of each client. Recognizing that all therapeutic styles have strengths and limitations, she tailors treatment plans based on the client’s challenges, beliefs, and worldview. Chelsea helps clients explore mental health issues stemming from generational trauma and marginalization, empowering them through solution-focused methods. Following a humanistic, person-centered approach, Chelsea believes in the inherent worth of each person—an often-overlooked value in our society. She emphasizes that progress toward personal goals is best achieved by starting from a foundation of self-acceptance. Deeply valuing community, she is dedicated to fostering connection, mutual support, acceptance, and healthy communication in her work.
Chelsea's practice goes beyond addressing mental illness, encompassing responses to unmet needs—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. She has experience working with survivors of assault and relationship violence, individuals with complex trauma histories, and those navigating identity issues. Although she is a master’s-level intern, Chelsea brings years of experience in mental health, including working with individuals with disabilities and utilizing American Sign Language.
At the Children’s Hospital of Colorado, Chelsea frequently supported patients dealing with eating disorders, neurodivergence, and complex trauma in both inpatient and emergency care settings. Her worldview and therapeutic practice are shaped by her experiences as a survivor and community advocate. Chelsea identifies as Latina and is a member of the LGBTQ+ and disabled communities.
Chelsea Kaban is a Master of Social Work intern from the University of Denver, supervised by James Nee Hundley, LCSW and Lisa Griffiths, PsyD. She sees clients both via telehealth and in-person in Aurora, CO.
